These M&M blondies are a fast treat if you need something speedy to bring to a gathering! I love these M&M blondies because they taste like cookies, but require much less effort. Instead of forming cookie dough balls, we get to dump the batter in a pan and shove them in the oven.
These bars are buttery and chewy and delicious. AND they look extra jazzy with mini M&M’s.
What you need to make M&M blondies
- A large bowl – for our blondie batter
- Large whisk – for when we melt light brown sugar and butter on the stovetop
- Spatula – to transfer our batter easily
- 9×13 pan – this can be a metal pan or a casserole dish if you want. I used my Le Creuset dish to make these.
Ingredients needed to make M&M blondies
- All purpose flour – the easiest flour to grab! I wanted to use all-purpose flour for these M&M blondies because most people have it stocked in their pantries.
- Light brown sugar – light brown sugar actually has less molasses than dark brown sugar. The light brown sugar creates a lighter tasting brownie, but you can definitely use dark brown sugar if you cannot find light brown sugar. It will still taste fabulous!
- Unsalted butter – since we are going to melt the butter in a saucepan, we don’t need it to be room temperature, which is great!
- Mini M&M’s – I prefer mini M&M’s, but you can use a combination of normal sized candies and mini’s (or just all bigger ones). It really won’t affect the bake much.
- Dark Chocolate – I used 70% dark chocolate chips from Trader Joe’s. I chopped them up a bit but you could leave them whole if you want.
Tips on making M&M blondies
On the process: You’re going to melt the butter with the light brown sugar and salt over medium heat. Whisk it often and watch it slowly thicken. However, keep a close watch so it doesn’t burn. It shouldn’t be bubbling. If it does, turn down the heat.
Let it cool! Remove it from the heat once the sugar has completely dissolved. You will need to WAIT until the mixture has completely cooled down before adding the egg (so it doesn’t cook). This will require some patience. Check after 10 minutes, but if it is still pretty hot, wait at least ten more minutes before proceeding.
Get festive! If it’s Christmas, use red and green M&M’s. Use pastels for Easter or school colors for a game. Easy!
How to store your M&M blondies
Slice your blondies into even bars and place them in an airtight container. You can store them at room temperature.
