Hot Honey Shallot Pizza

Hot Honey Shallot Pizza

Share!

A white pizza of your dreams: hot honey shallot pizza. This pizza recipe is easy, with a ricotta garlic base, spinach and mozzarella sprinkled on top and drizzled with a sweet sauce. It’s cheesy, salty and sweet. Plus: EASY.

Recipe Inspo

White pizza is a great way to use up leftover cheese and other pantry items, which is how this recipe came to be. I had a bunch of shallots that I didn’t end up using and I didn’t want them to go to waste so I threw them on there, and they caramelized right into the cheese.

I usually love a balsamic drizzle but I decided to change it up for a honey sauce with some heat. It balances all of the salty cheesy, creamy flavors.

What you need to make this hot honey shallot pizza

Here’s what you’ll need to grab:

Ingredients

Add these to your grocery list:

  • all-purpose flour – for our pizza dough.
  • instant yeast – I use Instaferm’s Instant Yeast. Instant yeast is different than active yeast. “Active” yeast describes any dry yeast that needs to be activated prior to use, while “instant dry yeast” describes any dry yeast that’s ready for use the instant you open the package. BINGO! That’s what we want. Less work. NOTE: You could use active yeast, but you will need to soak active yeast in warm milk for 5-10 minutes before adding it to the flour.
  • salt
  • olive oil
  • one beer of your choice – I’ve made this pizza with everything from Bud Light to Guinness.
  • whole milk ricotta cheese – or skim milk! Any milk!
  • garlic
  • shallots – you should get around 3 large shallots. If you want more shallots, add more!
  • spinach – arugula would be good too.
  • 1 mozzarella – I like to slice it instead of shred it.
  • honey – be sure to get real honey!
  • apple cider vinegar
  • red pepper flakes – for heat!

How to make hot honey shallot pizza

Let’s make it together!

Step 1

Prepare the pizza dough. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, yeast and salt. Then add the olive oil and beer. Mix together until combined – it will be decently wet. Cover the bowl with a hand towel and let sit for about one hour.

Step 2

Knead the dough a little. Remove the towel and sprinkle in about an extra ¼ cup of flour into the bowl. With your hands, knead the dough and keep adding flour 1 tbsp at a time until it is no longer super sticky (but soft and pliable).

Step 3

Roll out the dough. Flour your work surface and your rolling pin to prevent sticking. Place your dough on the surface and roll out the dough into a long rectangular shape that will fit on your sheet pan. Keep the dough thick enough that you can transfer it to your pan without tearing.

Step 4

Preheat the oven to 450°F. Then start the toppings. To make the base, combine the ricotta, garlic, a pinch of salt and two tablespoons of olive oil in a small bowl. Stir together and then spoon the mixture onto the pizza into one smooth layer. Leave a border around the edges for the crust.

Step 5

Top the pizza with the sliced shallots, followed by the spinach. Add the mozzarella slices on top. Top with red pepper flakes if you wish.

Step 6

Place the pizza in the oven to bake for 15 minutes. The mozzarella should look slightly golden brown and the crust should be firm and crispy. If the crust is still squishy, bake for 3-5 more minutes.

Step 7

Meanwhile, make the sauce. Add the honey, apple cider vinegar and red pepper flakes to a saucepan and heat over medium. Let the honey bubble for about a minute. Then remove from the heat and let cool for 1-2 minutes. Then drizzle over the pizza while it’s still warm.

Storage and Reheating Suggestions

Once the pizza is cool, slice it up and stack your slices into airtight containers. Or you can wrap them in aluminum foil.

To reheat, preheat the oven to 350°F. Place the pizza on aluminum foil and place it in the oven. Bake for 10 minutes.
